If you have a significant toothache, the pulp within your tooth’s inner canals could be infected. Injury or a deep cavity can cause bacteria to infiltrate the sensitive pulp, or nerve, inside a tooth. When the pulp is infected, pressure builds, causing pain. Pulp brings nutrients to a tooth and removes waste. During the formative years, teeth require this service. However, adult teeth do not grow. Therefore, infected pulp can be removed, and the tooth can remain in place.
